Schools and Borough to Enjoy New Athletic Fields
The Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders has awarded the North Plainfield School District an Open Space and Recreation grant in the amount of &1 million. This money is dedicated to the installation of a synthetic grass playing surface on Upper Krausche Field.
The grant will pay for excavation of the property, the sub-grade, and drainage. It also includes synthetic grass with permanent lines inlaid for soccer, football, field hockey, softball and baseball. New interior fencing gates are also included in the project. Construction is to begin on or about June 8, 2009 and be completed for the opening of school in September.
Scope of the Project
The project will move the football field closer to the home bleachers, with a baseball diamond in the northeast (CVS) corner and a softball diamond in the northwest (Red Tower) corner.
What is All-Weather Turf?
The artificial turf is tufted fabric with a polyurethane coating. The grass is 100% cryogenically-processed rubber granules. All components are designed and manufactured for use on outdoor fields. The finished playing surface appears as mowed grass. This surface resists abrasion and tearing from normal use.
